michael korver
managing partner michael is a co-founding partner of gvc and a partner in funds I, II, and III and managing partner of gvc IV and V. michael was born and raised in Tokyo and first developed his insider's perspective on Asian business from his experience as an analyst at the Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo from 1983 until 1986 (where he first met hirokazu, gvc's other managing partner), and as an international transactions lawyer with Richards & O'Neil in New York and Tokyo from 1987 until 1993. Since 1993 michael has worked as an international business consultant, corporate lawyer, venture capitalist and entrepreneur in Tokyo . He has founded or co-founded several companies and has served on the boards of a number of them. From 1999 until 2002 michael was in charge of legal and business affairs at The News Corporation Limited Japan, the Japanese operations of the international media conglomerate. michael currently serves as professor in the MBA program at the Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy of Hitotsubashi University where he teaches courses in entrepreneurship and venture capital. michael serves on the boards of ChipIn Inc. (dba "Sprout Inc."), Pipeline Micro Inc., ReallyEnglish.com Limited and Nanopoint Inc. michael received a B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1979 and an M.A. in Economics and a professional law degree (Juris Doctor- J.D.) in 1983 all from the University of California at Berkeley . He is licensed to practice law in the States of New York and California.
hirokazu hasegawa
hirokazu is a co-founding partner of gvc and is managing partner of funds I, II, III, IV, and V. For three years prior to founding gvc from 1993 until 1996, hirokazu analyzed investment strategy and providing management consulting services to portfolio companies for JAFCO , Japan 's largest venture capital company. Prior to joining JAFCO during a ten year career as a securities analyst at Nomura Research Institute (where he first met michael, gvc's other managing partner) from 1984 until 1993 , hirokazu received the number one ranking in the annual Japanese analyst rankings. With numerous publications to his credit, hirokazu is frequently engaged to speak on matters related to venture capital investing and venture business management in Japan . hirokazu currently serves as professor in the MBA program at the Graduate School of Management of Waseda University where he teaches courses in entrepreneurship and venture capital. . hirokazu received a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Chuo University (1984), a Ph.D. from Waseda University Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies PhD Program (2006) and is a Japanese certified public accountant (Konin Kaikeishi) and a member of The Security Analysts Association of Japan.
